What We Do

Three Services, One Purpose

Our work is deliberately focused on the areas where families most often need legal support — separation, parenting arrangements, and dispute resolution. Each service is delivered with care, clarity, and a commitment to lasting outcomes.

How We Work

Our Methodology

Every engagement at Padang Counsel begins in the same place: a private consultation where we listen carefully before we advise. We believe that understanding the full picture of a client's situation — including its emotional and practical dimensions — is a prerequisite for good legal counsel.

From there, we assess which service or combination of services is most appropriate. In many cases, the most constructive path runs through mediation or negotiation rather than formal proceedings. We present options honestly and support clients in choosing the approach that fits their circumstances and priorities.

1

Private Initial Consultation

We hear your situation in confidence before suggesting any course of action.

2

Assessment and Strategy

We review the relevant facts, identify applicable options, and outline a recommended path forward.

3

Preparation and Representation

We prepare all necessary documents and, where needed, represent your position in mediation or proceedings.

4

Resolution and Documentation

Agreements are documented carefully with an eye on durability and enforceability.

How This Service Works

1

Initial Consultation

We discuss your circumstances, confirm jurisdiction eligibility, and assess whether a simplified or contested process is more likely.

2

Filing and Ancillary Matters

We prepare and file the divorce papers, then address ancillary matters — assets, maintenance, and children — through negotiation where possible.

3

Final Orders

We obtain the Interim Judgment, finalise ancillary orders, and ensure all documentation is in order before the Final Judgment is granted.

Service 02

Child Custody & Access Arrangements

Sensitive advisory for parents working through custody and access matters, with the child's welfare at the centre of every recommendation. We support parents whether they have reached agreement and need consent orders drafted, or require representation for court proceedings.

Applications for sole or joint custody
Care and control and access schedule drafting
Consent order preparation where parties agree
International relocation applications
Variation of existing orders where circumstances change

How This Service Works

1

Family Circumstances Review

We understand the family's background, each parent's living arrangements, and the child's current situation before advising on arrangements.

2

Arrangement Drafting

Where agreement exists, we prepare consent orders for filing. Where matters are disputed, we prepare position papers and represent at hearings.

3

Order Finalisation

We ensure orders are correctly filed and enforceable, and advise on practical implementation of the arrangements going forward.

Service 03

Family Mediation Facilitation

A structured mediation service for families seeking to resolve disputes away from the courtroom. Led by an accredited mediator in a neutral environment, sessions help both parties work toward outcomes they can both accept — with particular care for families where ongoing communication matters for the children.

Pre-mediation preparation and briefing
Asset division and maintenance discussions
Parenting coordination in a guided setting
Neutral facilitation by accredited mediator
Documentation of any agreements reached

How This Service Works

1

Pre-Mediation Preparation

Each party meets separately with the mediator to set out their key priorities and understand the mediation process before the joint session.

2

Facilitated Session

The mediator guides structured discussion, helps both parties articulate their interests, and explores areas of potential agreement.

3

Agreement Documentation

Where agreement is reached, we document it clearly. Parties may then seek legal advice on converting the agreement into a formal court order.
